As an artist
In my artistic work, my intent is to convey and invite feeling. I utilize whatever medium is suitable, whether that be the next musical phrase or series of gestures, the design of a garden gate, a painting about rain, or a wooden bowl to commemorate a life event. My wish is to serve the impressions of the moment. For a wood bowl, this might comprise knowledge of the tree's life, the grain of the wood and the intended use of the bowl. For a painting of rain the inspiration proceeds from the sensation and memory of what it looks and feels like to be in the rain. For a garden gate, I incorporate the feelings of viewing the gate from a distance, approaching the gate and finally opening it and passing through.
My latest creative endeavors have been focused on abstract watercolor and wood turning. I get inspiration from being in nature, and from my participation and interactions in group improvisation activities such as music circles and experimental dance with live music.
